:DIA DE LOS MUERTOS:

Day of the Dead (2nd Nov)

Is a holiday celebrated in Mexico which focuses on remembering the dead. Scholars trace the origins of the holiday to indigenous observances dating back thousands of years and to an Aztec festival dedicated to a goddess called Mictecacihuatl.

When the Spanish began arriving in the 16th century, they were offended by the Day of the Dead, and saw it as a pagan holiday. Most particular, the Spanish were appalled at the Day of the Dead art, which they saw as gruesome and morbid.
